WEEK IN REVIEW: February 2 – February 7, 2026

We want to begin this week by recognizing our CTE teacher, Mr. Dave Devoe, for his continued willingness to use his construction classes to take on meaningful projects that directly benefit Wishram School. Over time, his students have built a school shed, bleachers for our gymnasium, classroom shelving, coat racks, steps to our flagpole, and likely many other projects that are easy to forget because they’ve simply become part of our everyday school environment. All of this work happens while students are still learning core construction skills and building impressive projects to take home — many of which you’ve probably seen if you follow our school Facebook page. This kind of real-world learning, pride in craftsmanship, and service to the school is exactly what CTE should look like, and we are grateful for Mr. Devoe’s leadership and commitment to our students.

We’re also excited to share that Wishram School is launching a new attendance incentive program. Mr. Cameron and our teaching staff have been working together to thoughtfully design a program that encourages strong daily attendance and helps build consistent routines for students. I want to be upfront that this program will be challenging by design — it rewards students for being on site, all day, every day.

While we fully understand that many absences are excused under school rules, the attendance incentive program will operate under a separate set of criteria. Absences such as doctor or dentist appointments, religious observances, and cultural or family ceremonies will continue to be excused for school purposes; however, they will not count toward eligibility for that week’s attendance recognition unless the absence is school-related. Our goal is not to punish students, but to clearly reinforce the importance of showing up consistently, building habits that support learning, and recognizing those who make that commitment.

This past week at Wishram School included continued student supports, academic collaboration, and a full slate of athletic events as we moved steadily through the winter season.
