 Staff Spotlight – Mr. Detmar “Dets” McCullough 

This week I want to recognize Mr. Detmar “Dets” McCullough.

Dets started working at Wishram School back in 2013 and is now on his 14th year with the district. He originally started as a bus driver, and ever since then he has been one of our main drivers and one of the people we can always count on.

Over the years, Dets has continued to take on more and more responsibility. From coaching sports, to serving as our ASB Activities Director, and now as our Athletic Director, he has consistently stepped up whenever needed. He also took over as our Transportation Lead where he schedules routes, helps ensure buses are maintained and cleaned, and keeps transportation operations running smoothly.

Many people may not realize that school buses go through yearly state inspections, and sometimes even surprise winter inspections. We are proud to say that Wishram School has never had an out-of-service placed on one of our buses due to a defective bus. That is a major accomplishment, especially considering Wishram does not have the ability to purchase newer fleets like many larger districts.

One thing I especially appreciate about Dets is his attitude anytime I ask him to step in somewhere else. Whether it’s helping with recess duty, serving lunch, shopping for the district, or filling another gap, his response is almost always, “Whatever is needed.”

What makes that even more meaningful is that Dets has never asked for anything in return.

Dets—thank you for your dedication, flexibility, and commitment to Wishram School and our students. Your work behind the scenes makes a bigger difference than most people realize.

 Only 3 Weeks Left in the School Year 

It is hard to believe, but starting Monday, May 25th, there will only be 3 weeks remaining in the 2025/2026 school year.

As we head into the final stretch of the year, now is the time for students to make sure they are passing all of their classes and staying caught up on assignments. If a student is struggling in a class or concerned about their grade, I strongly encourage them and their families to reach out to their teacher and ask for a meeting to discuss what can still be done to improve their grade before the end of the year.

Our staff is here to support students and help them finish the school year strong. Let’s continue working together to make these final weeks successful for all students.

 We also want to invite our families and community to join us on Friday, May 29th from 4:00 – 6:00 PM for our End-of-the-Year Cultural Dance Demonstration hosted by Wishram School MEP. We are excited to welcome the Eagle Quest Dancers and Drummers for an evening of culture, dancing, food, and community celebration. There will also be dance contests, prizes, and a catered BBQ. We hope to see everyone there for this special event!

 Another Busy Week at Wishram School

This past week continued to be filled with student learning, activities, testing, and preparation for end-of-year events. Our students continued to work hard both academically and in extracurricular activities, and we appreciate the support our families continued to provide throughout this busy season.

As we move toward the end of the school year, we also begin celebrating many important milestones for our students, especially our Seniors as graduation quickly approaches.
