Mr. Schumaker's 2023 kickoff message
Posted by Jason Cooper on 8/25/2023 11:00:00 AM
Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.
-George S. Patton
Each week, you will receive a Principal's Corner from me. It will contain a positive message, scheduling information, CEL 5D+ Tips, Dad Jokes, and a Reflective Question. This is how I ensure we are updated on our information, connected on important dates and action items, have a little fun, and have a weekly dose of Professional Learning.
Kudos:
-Thank you, staff, for two days of great professional learning.
-Thank you, Sarah and Ronni, for all your hard work preparing the office for the new school year.
-Thank you, Tye, Antoine, and Jason, for all the extra summer work. The grounds, building, and rooms looked great and ready for students.
-Sheila and crew, you prepared some great lunches last week for our PD. You all rock!
Thank you, Wishram, for 101 Students! We are excited!
-"My wife said I should do lunges to stay in shape. That would be a big step forward."
-"Why do fathers take an extra pair of socks when they go golfing?" "In case they get a hole in one!"
-"Singing in the shower is fun until you get soap in your mouth. Then it's a soap opera."
Thank you, Wishram, for 101 Students! We are excited!
WEEK in Review:

Wednesday- 1st Day of School Kindergarten is on a half-day

1. There is still time to join our Wishram Fantasy Football League. The draft is next Thursday, August 29. Click the link to join:
2. Tuesday is our Flex Day. We start at 11:00 and end at 7:00. Please take a look at your Welcome Back Staff Letter for the schedule. Open House is from 6 to 7. The Community Dinner runs from 6:00 to 6:25, and after 6:25 to 7:00, we will follow the schedule for a typical day with 5-minute class periods. Please have a class syllabus ready for parents.
3. Teachers- I will need a curriculum/materials list of all items you use in your instructional practice within the classroom by September 22. The purpose of this is to establish a Curriculum Adoption Cycle for the district. (Title, Publisher, Copy Year Date, and the date you started using it in your classroom).
4. I will also need a copy of your class syllabus for each class you teach.
A really good resource for this is at: https://www. cultofpedagogy.com/course- syllabus-how-to/ . These are important to have and are kept on file. Colleges, the state auditor, and parents will ask to see these. I will collect these by Sept. 15th. Please feel free to either give me a paper copy or an electronic version.
5. The First Staff meeting is Sept 5th. - Every Tuesday from 2:50 to 3:20.
6. Welcome Cheyne, Matt, Cassandra, and Aidan to our learning community. We are happy to have you here!
CEL to Ponder:
P1 Purpose – Standards: Connection to standards, broader purpose, and transferable skill
The lesson is based on grade level standards, and the learning target(s) align with the standard. The lesson is frequently linked to a broader purpose or a transferable skill.
Just to remind you, in CEL 5D+ - All of Criterion One won't be Proficient without a Learning Target on the Board. The target needs to be communicated and reinforced throughout the lesson.
A Little Humor:
-"I'm afraid of the calendar. Its days are numbered."-"My wife said I should do lunges to stay in shape. That would be a big step forward."
-"Why do fathers take an extra pair of socks when they go golfing?" "In case they get a hole in one!"
-"Singing in the shower is fun until you get soap in your mouth. Then it's a soap opera."
Chuck Norris - If you spell Chuck Norris in Scrabble, you win. Forever.
Reflection:
What makes Wishram Great? Reply all...
