Hello and Happy Friday, Wishram Students, Staff, Family and Friends,

Have you voted yet? If you're not registered to vote, there's still time. There are only eleven days left until the General Election and your vote does matter.  It's been a crazy week here at Wishram School with Spirit Week activities in full swing all week. I've seen some crazy cool outfits this week. If you haven't had a chance, take a look at the Wishram School Facebook page for some amazing pictures from this week.

Monday, October 21st.
Our School Nurse and school Therapist was here.  Mr. Churchwell attended the Klickitat County Emergency Planning for Schools Meeting at 1:00 pm. We discussed the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). All school districts in Klickitat County are adopting SRP through the "I Love You Guys Foundation": We will send more information out on this once we are fully ready to adopt these new safety procedures.  We discussed the upcoming Active Shooter Training on November 1st. All Wishram Staff will be attending this training which is being put on by Klickitat County Sheriff's Office.  There were also presentations by Handle With Care and Emergent 3.  We had our Staff Meeting at 3:00 pm.  Our JH football team hosted Arlington/Ione. We did not pull out a victory but the kids played a great game. The final score was 6 to 12. This was the last game of the season for our JH football team.  Our JH volleyball team traveled to Trout Lake. They did not pull off a victory, but they had fun.

Tuesday, October 22nd.
The School Therapist was here.  Willamette Elevator Company was here doing yearly maintenance on our ADA Lift.  Students were released at 12:00 pm. Student Conferences went from 1:00 to 3:30 pm.  Our District Implementation Team (DIT) met at 3:00 to discuss the November 1st Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) training for November 1st.  Yakama Nation Engineering Tribal Traffic Safety Department hosted a Bicycle Rodeo in the parking lot of Wishram School. This was a free event for all Wishram Students. The goal was to teach kids safe bike riding. Twenty-seven Wishram students participated in the rodeo. Every Student who turned out got a free bicycle helmet and if they had a bike that needed minor repairs there was a bicycle mechanic on hand to perform them repairs. Thank you to all who made this event a success.  Sports Pictures were at 3:30.
The School Board had their monthly meeting at 5:15 pm. Present were, Clyde Rosa, (Board Chairman), Christina Patten-Rowan (Vice Chairman), Betsy Barnhart (Legislative Rep), Yvonne Johnson, (Member), Jeff Agustus (Member) Tye Churchwell (Superintendent), Brent Cameron (Principal) Sarah Hathaway (Business Manager) and student guest, Kayleb Rowan. The board meeting started with reports from Mr. Churchwell and then Mr. Cameron. The main topic of discussion was Policy 6022, Minimum Fund Balance. Mr. Churchwell had requested that the board consider increasing the minimum fund balance at the September meeting. The topic was tabled due to a low number of board members at that meeting. The board voted to raise the minimum fund balance goal from $200,000 to $400,000. Thank you Wishram School Board Members for your service to the Wishram School. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to give me a call here at the school at 509 767 6090 or on my cell at 541 993 1850.

Students were released at 12:00 pm. Student Conferences went from 1:00 to 3:30 pm.  We had multiple contractors in the building doing a walk-through so they can accurately put quotes together for our modernization project that will start sometime around May. The bidding process has opened up to complete HVAC retrofit for our 24,000 sq.ft. Jr./Sr. High School including all new hydronic boilers, chiller, piping, pumping, air handlers, ductwork, and controls. This Grant will also upgrade our lighting, lower our interior ceilings, and provide our kitchen with a walk-in cooler and freezer. The deadline to have bids in is Nov 8, 2024, at 12:00 pm.  Our Building  Implementation Team, (BIT) met at 1:30 to discuss the November 1st Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) PLD day.  Our JH Volleyball team traveled to Klickitat to participate in the league tournament. They did not pull out a win, but they were very close games. Great Season Ladies.  Our HS Volleyball team traveled to Ione to play Ione/Arlington in the first round of district play. They did not pull off the victory but had a good run. Great Job Ladies.

Thursday, October 24th.
Students were released at 12:00 pm. Student Conferences went from 1:00 to 8:00 pm. There was a break from 5:00 to 6:00 for staff to eat dinner. All the staff brought something for a taco bar. The taco bar was an excellent dinner for our staff.  Conference turnout for our elementary school has been great. Secondary turnout is not as good, but not bad. Thank you parents/guardians for taking the time out of your day to come meet with your child's teacher.
