Steady Hands in a Busy Season

As we continue through April and the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to recognize something important: in the midst of all the activity—testing, events, field trips, and final projects—it’s the steady, day-to-day commitment of our staff, students, and families that keeps our school moving forward.

For many of our students, school is more than a place to learn—it’s a place of stability, encouragement, and care. The consistent support from teachers, the presence of volunteers, and the involvement of families all make a difference. It’s easy to overlook how much that consistency matters, especially when we’re all moving fast.

Thank you to our staff for staying steady and focused. Thank you to our families for continuing to support your children and our school. Together, we’re helping our students finish strong.

 Week in Review: April 7 – April 13, 2025

Modular Building Update:
The modulars are coming together!

• Carpet installation in the modular classrooms began Wednesday, and finished up Thursday.

• Power has been successfully connected and tested.

• Exterior lighting and punch list items were addressed by Pacific Mobile and Raines Electric.

• ASET will be on site Friday continuing the work installing all the wiring for our low-voltage which includes, Telephones, Internit, Security Cameras and Fire protection system.

Energy Efficiency Project Update:

• Starting Monday, April 7th, contractors will be working a swing shift from 5:00 pm to 3:00 am. 

• Ceiling height adjustments and lighting work continued.

• NW Edison was on site Monday to install emergency lighting in the gym.

• HVAC installation, along with hot water and chiller systems, remain in progress.

• Walk-in cooler/freezer work is ongoing,

Monday, April 7:

• School Nurse on-site

• Mr. Churchwell and Apollo had their weekly check in meeting at 9:00 am.

• NW Edison installed “stay-on” emergency lights in the gym

• JH & HS Track Practice continued

• Staff Program Committee Meeting at 3:05 PM

Tuesday, April 8:

• School Therapist on-site

• Mr. Walters took a group of students to tour a Job Corps campus

• Mr. Churchwell participated in a Statewide OSPI Update Webinar from 2:00–3:00 PM

• Mr. Cameron and his Cell Phone Policy Committee met at 2:30

Wednesday, April 9:

• Carpet was installed in the Modular Buildings. 

• Mr. Churchwell attended a Superintendent Meeting with leaders from Gorge, Pacific, and Wahkiakum Counties

Thursday, April 10:

• Carpets continued being installed in the Modular Buildings. 

• A Conex was delivered. This is to store supplies for the Energy Efficiency Grant Construction Project. 

• JH Track Meet at Condon at 3:00 PM

• REACH STEM Family Fun Night kicked off at 4:00 PM — a great turnout and awesome projects on display!

Friday, April 11:

• ASET Security on site. 

• Mr. Churchwell and Mr. Cameron attended a Standard Response Protocol Meeting from 10:00–11:00 AM

• HS Track Meet at Condon at 11:00 AM

Saturday, April 12:

Looking Ahead: April 14 – April 20, 2025

Monday, April 14:

• School Nurse and Therapist on-site

• Mr. Churchwell will attend his REC Meeting at 10:00 am. 

• Staff Meeting at 3:05 PM in the Staff Workroom

• Community Council meeting in the school gymnasium at 5:30 pm.

Tuesday, April 15:

• School Therapist on-site

• Mr. Churchwell and Apollo will have their weekly check-in at 9:30 am. . 

• Mr. Churchwell will attend the REC meeting at 10:00 am. 

• The MTSS Team will meet from 3:00 to 3:30

• Mr. Churchwell will attend a Wildfire Preparedness Training for Schools from 3:30 to 4:30 pm

• Mr. Churechwell will attend the Regional Native Parent/Community K/12 Advisory Committee Meeting from 4:30 to 5:45 pm (CANCELLED)

Wednesday, April 16:

• Happy Birthday Sheila McCullough

• Late Start Day. School Will start at 10:00 am. Staff will work on the Strategic Plan from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. 

• We will have a suicide prevention assembly. 

• Ms. Hathaway and Mr. Churchwell will be in a HR Services Meeting 11:30 am to 12:00 pm. 

• I will be in an AI workshop from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. 

• HS Track will be at White Salmon. 3:00 pm start time. 

• REACH will have a presentation on water safety.

• No School – Staff Professional Development Day-Staff will continue working on the Strategic Plan.
