About Mrs. Taylor

I have been teaching in the Columbia Gorge for 20 years.  My first teaching job was at Wishram School in 2002, then I moved on to The Dalles High School in 2005, and now like a salmon, I have come back upstream to Wishram.   My philosophy of teaching is that reading and writing helps us in every area of our lives, making us better communicators and better learners.  Literature offers insights into how others have dealt with tough situations and we can learn from their examples.  My job is to help students succeed at wherever their journey may take them, be it careers in the military, the trades, or to college.  Every career requires communication.  The more education you receive, the more your life and the lives around you improve.

I grew up in the tri-cities and attended Western Washington University to be closer to the sea.  I love to read, so I earned an English Degree in, Writing intensive. By strange events,  I met my husband, who was in the Navy on Submarines.  I had two children and worked selling torpedoes and making reports for congress.  We took a detour to Louisiana, where I had a midlife crisis and became a teacher.  Then moved back to the northwest, and had another kid.  My children are now 28, 26, and 17 and I just became a grandma for the first time (want to see pictures?)  In 2007 I continued my education earning a Masters in English.  My passions are reading and writing, but I also love boating, kayaking, embroidery, and storytelling.

Thank you,

Mrs. Yvonne Taylor
