Mr. Churchwells weekly update

Posted by Jason Cooper on 8/30/2024

Good morning everyone and Happy Friday.

Hope you all had an amazing first week of school. I personally have absolutely loved seeing all the smiles on our students and staff's faces.

Monday, August 26th was your first PLD day and you were all engaged and working hard. Mr. Cameron set up some amazing training that day with iReady and Character Strong. The feedback I got from several staff members was that it was good training. You also got to spend some time going over student data.

Tuesday, August 27th was our Staff Directed Day. Again, you were all so engaged and active in participating in all topics. Thank you so much.
I went over district expectations such as being on time, being where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be there, student success, parking as well as many other things. We learned what safety drills we would practice throughout the year. We learned what to do in case of a fire, chemical spill, earthquake, and/or an active shooter situation.

Mr. Cameron spent time going over key areas of the student handbook and his expectations.

Mr. Parshall was here and staff participated in helping to build our Strategic Plan.

School Nurse Robin Campbell was here to go over mandatory medication training.

Finally, on Tuesday, all staff participated in our Open House from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. I felt the event was a great success. We served hot dogs, cotton candy, and popcorn. We had a bouncy house and several fun activities where you could win some great prizes. We had one secondary and one elementary $50.00 FM gift card winner. It was so fun watching all the kids trying to figure out who the school staff was so that they could get at least 12 signatures to be entered into the drawing for the $50.00 gift card. I attached a few pictures of the event.

Wednesday, August 28th was our student's first day back. I always get so excited to see how they've grown and how their personalities have changed, not to mention having them show us all their new clothes and backpacks. It's also great getting to meet all of our new students.

We started the day with a school-wide assembly where first we met and honored our senior class. Then we introduced all of our staff to our students by having them stand out in front of our students and tell them who they are and what they will be doing for them.

We had a few minor hiccups as we do on every first day, but it was a great success. As of right now, we have an enrollment of 99 kids.

Thursday, August 29th our HS VB team played their first match against C.S. Lewis. They Won the first two sets but ended up losing the next 3. They played hard and it was exciting to watch.

Friday, August 30th. Our HS Football team will be heading to Dufur to play in the Dufur Classic. Game time: 1:00 pm

Saturday, August 31st.Our HS Volleyball team will be traveling to Dufur to play in a tournament.

As I walked around the building Wednesday - Friday I was able to see so much learning and student engagement. Teachers and their support staff were actively engaged in student learning and student assessments are already in the works.

Great Job Everyone!
